Four Generations and Still Going!

This picture was taken about 10 years ago and shows four generations of POA enthusiast in our family. My parents, Art and Rita Schonfeldt (pictured on the left) started in POA's in 1957. In 1979, Norm and I bought our first two POA's for our sons to ride. John (not pictured), Jeff (on the far right) and Jared (western hat on left) went to their first POA show in August 1979 and rode until each graduated at the age of 18. Mounted on J-N Justa Gold Rush is fourth generation, Matthew. Matthew started riding leadline equitation at age 1 and is still riding. Matthew was joined by our youngest grandson, Jase (age 1) last year. This makes over 50 years of our family's involvement in the POA Breed.

In 1985, John won the first ever Versatility Competition with Darlin Jill. Darlin Jill was one of the first POA's we started
our showing and breeding program with. That year John also won high point 13-18 Boy awards at Midwest Regional, Northeast
Regional, Mid-America Regional and the Sportmanship Award at the International Show. At the October Futurities that fall, he showed Darlin Jill/Gold Prince foal, J-N Gold Rush to a win in the colt class.

Jeff started his show career riding and showing Triple R's Siri Ghost. Then he moved on to Hi-Vue's Abigail when younger brother, Jared, needed an 8 & under pony to take care of him.

Jared started riding leadline equitation at age 4. Jared move up to Darlin Jill in the 9-12 age group where Jill taught him to be a more aggressive rider.

Jared started riding J-N Ghost of Gold when he was 11 years old and Goldie was a 2 year old stallion. Jared and Goldie competed all over the country for 8 years winning two International saddles and one World saddle as high point 13-18 boy. In 1994, they finished their career as No. 1 Performance Pony in the national year-end standings.

Matthew (age 13) and Jase (age 2) are the future riders of J-N Farm.

Matt and J-N Gold Destiny won the Native American Costume class at the 2006 International Show held the end of July in Lake St. Louis, MO. He represents a Lakota Sioux.

Last year Matt rode J-N Gold Destiny. He finished the points for her to get her Supreme Champion award at the 2007 national Convention in Indianapolis the end of February. Matt also ended up #9 in Top Ten Performance Pony in the national year-ends. We are very proud of this because we just went to our regular number of shows this past summer.

Matt also did very well showing in Wisconsin. Cindi Meehan is presenting Matt the Gibson Challenge Award for 2006 which is given to the Wisconsin POA youth with the most points earned.

Jase not only rides Leadline Equitation, he rides Leadline Trail, Leadline Costume and three Leadline timed classes at each Wisconsin weekend of shows.

Jase competes as one of the Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Fence for Leadline Costume. See Dad on the leadline as the ghost. Jase was 6th in the 2007 National Year End Standings in the Costume classes ages 18 and under.
